The boys loved walking through the forest- they searched for dinosaurs and jobi wood (their word for fallen trees). But we finally did it, and are settling in for our first night. Here is Sam in the playroom in awe of, you know, all this space!

Treasure!

On a cold wet afternoon I prepared this while the boys napped. I colored pics of items I knew they would recognize on cards and hid them in order around the apartment. Then I prepared a treasure map, which the boys knew all about after watching a treasure themed Blues Clues.

I gave them the first card…

With a little direction they picked up on the idea of how to follow each clue to the next one.

This card led to their favorite furry friend…

Ren found the next clue- Mr.Potato Head…

But Sam fished out the next clue card…

As each clue was found we added it to our map until X marked the spot…

They were so excited their big car was a clue that they wanted to ride around…

…rather than check the truck, where two lollipops were hidden!

Yum! Treasure.

nprfreshair:

After reading through this beautiful pop up version of the story we used colorful paint to create hungry caterpillars to take home!

Next we reread the part about all the fruit the caterpillar ate and added each kind to a pipe cleaner “caterpillar”…

Ren checks out the pear his caterpillar ate…

Finally we fed a big caterpillar our own favorite foods until he was so full he went off to build a cocoon…

Below is the lesson I created around one of our favorite books: If You Give a Mouse a Cookie…

Today’s book was about a mouse who wanted a cookie!

After reading the story we acted out the mouse’s adventure around the house.

We swept the floors like mouse…

\

We colored a picture like mouse…

Finally, it was time to make our own mouse puppets with a cookie to keep in his pocket. We used watercolors to paint our mice then added sticker “chips” to his cookie to take home in his pocket.

Where have we been?

You may have noticed we’ve been a bit MIA around here. This because we have started a cooperative playgroup with two sets of twin friends. Twice a week our 4 friends join us for lessons I’ve been planning around our favorite books, here is a peek at what we’ve been up to…

One of our first lessons was about one of our Favorite books Chicka Chicka Boom Boom (I’ll only be showing pics of our boys enjoying the fun)…

Today’s book was Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. The book follows the adventures of the alphabet letters as they climb up a coconut tree. We sang our ABCs to get in the mood for the story. After reading the book, we we went fishing with fishing poles for magnet letters in a pond.
