Today was nice and warm so we decided to break out the suds and wash our firetrucks! The boys like to call it a ‘wash down’ ala Thomas and Friends. Two very determined scrubbers- Next I’ll have them washing the minivan!

I know we’ve been MIA for weeks, because we’ve been in the middle of a move. But we finally did it, and are settling in for our first night. Here is Sam in the playroom in awe of, you know, all this space!

Treasure!

On a cold wet afternoon I prepared this while the boys napped. I colored pics of items I knew they would recognize on cards and hid them in order around the apartment. Then I prepared a treasure map, which the boys knew all about after watching a treasure themed Blues Clues.

I gave them the first card…

With a little direction they picked up on the idea of how to follow each clue to the next one.

This card led to their favorite furry friend…

Ren found the next clue- Mr.Potato Head…

But Sam fished out the next clue card…

As each clue was found we added it to our map until X marked the spot…

They were so excited their big car was a clue that they wanted to ride around…

…rather than check the truck, where two lollipops were hidden!

Yum! Treasure.

Very Hungry Caterpillar Lesson

This week’s book is The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.

After reading through this beautiful pop up version of the story we used colorful paint to create hungry caterpillars to take home!

Next we reread the part about all the fruit the caterpillar ate and added each kind to a pipe cleaner “caterpillar”…

Ren checks out the pear his caterpillar ate…

Finally we fed a big caterpillar our own favorite foods until he was so full he went off to build a cocoon…
